Ray Bay in North Orange County is an exposed rivermouth and beach break over a sand bottom, offering fun, peaky waves that cater to all levels—best conditions typically arrive in summer and fall. Offshore winds from the northeast groom incoming south and southwest swells, producing a mix of lefts and rights that break along river-fed sandbars and channels. The spot works best during low to mid tide, with clean, rideable faces during consistent swell. Crowds range from light to moderate, depending on tides and river flow. Surfers should be cautious of stingrays, murky water, and strong rip currents. The most consistent clean waves occur in summer, especially July through September.
