Point Loma in San Diego County is a sheltered beach and reef break with fairly consistent surf, best during the winter despite summer offering favorable conditions. It works well with a southwest swell and offshore winds from the northwest. Groundswells are more common than windswells, and the wave is surfable at all tide stages. Crowds can form on good days, and surfers should watch out for urchins and rips. The best surf occurs when a southwest swell aligns with northwest winds, with February being the most reliable month for clean, rideable waves.
