Moonlight State Beach in San Diego County is an exposed beach break with inconsistent surf, though summer tends to offer the best conditions. It performs best with distant groundswells from the southwest and offshore winds from the east, producing lefts and rights. The ideal time to surf is around mid tide when the tide is rising. While not always crowded, it can draw a crowd during favorable conditions. The most consistent clean waves typically occur in winter, particularly in November.
