Laguna Beach in Orange County is a fairly exposed reef break with consistent surf, best during winter—particularly in January. Ideal conditions occur when west-northwest groundswells combine with offshore east-northeast winds, generating both left and right-hand waves. The break is surfable at all tide stages and often draws crowds. Surfers should be cautious of hazards, including underwater obstructions (mines).
