Del Monte Beach in Monterey is an exposed beach break that generally offers consistent waves, especially during winter. The beach produces both left and right-hand waves and is best surfed around mid tide as it rises. It’s typically not crowded, even when the surf is good. Surfers should be cautious of rips and sharks. Optimal conditions occur when a northwest swell combines with south-southeast offshore winds, with the most reliable clean waves usually found in December.
