Cape Mendocino in Humboldt County is an exposed beach break with fairly consistent surf that can work year-round. It performs best with groundswells from the southwest and offshore winds from the east. The break features both left and right-hand waves, with optimal conditions around mid tide as it begins to rise. While it’s only occasionally crowded, the spot still draws attention when it’s working. Surfers should be cautious of sharks, rip currents, and rocks. The most consistent clean surf is typically seen in winter, particularly in January.
