Local Knowledge & Surf Guide

Local Knowledge

Rosie’s Bay on Vancouver Island is an exposed beach break with very consistent waves year-round, making it a dependable spot for surfers in most conditions. It performs best under offshore winds from the northeast and benefits from some protection against southeast winds. The break mainly receives groundswells, with the ideal swell direction from the west, and features left-hand waves exclusively. It’s surfable at all tide stages, but can become crowded during peak conditions. Submerged rocks in the lineup pose a hazard, so caution is advised. The best conditions are seen when a west swell combines with NE offshore winds, with January typically offering the most consistent clean surf.
