Local Knowledge & Surf Guide
Local Knowledge
The Rock in Baja Sur is an exposed reef break with consistent surf, especially during summer when conditions are optimal. The break is a right-hand reef that primarily receives distant groundswells from the south and works best with offshore winds from the south, although the best reported conditions occur when a south swell combines with an offshore wind from the west–northwest. The spot is likely to be crowded when working, and surfers should watch out for hazards such as sea urchins, rocks, and local surfers. The most reliable clean, rideable waves typically occur in summer, particularly in May.
