Bethells Beach (O’Neills Bay), West Coast Auckland – An exposed beach and reef break that works year-round, offering both lefts and rights along the beach and a right-hand reef break. The best surf conditions occur with a southwest swell and offshore winds from the east to northeast, especially around mid tide. Both wind swells and groundswells produce consistent waves, with Autumn (particularly April) delivering the cleanest, most reliable surf. The spot is rarely crowded but surfers should be cautious of strong rips, locals, and occasional sharks.
