Mussel Rock (West Coast, Auckland) is an exposed beach break known for its consistent surf, especially during Spring, Summer, and Autumn—with February offering the most reliable clean waves. The break works best on a southwest swell combined with offshore east winds, benefiting from partial shelter against stronger easterlies. Mussel Rock receives a mix of groundswells and windswells, producing mainly right-hand waves that perform best around low to rising tide. Crowds are rare, but surfers should be cautious of strong rips, rocks, and sharks.
