Playa los Frailes in Asturias is a sheltered beach break that offers pretty consistent surf, with winter being the optimum season. This spot provides both left and right-hand waves from an equal measure of windswells and groundswells; while it is best surfed around low tide and is surfable even in light onshore breezes, visitors should be mindful of dangerous rips despite the lack of crowds. The best conditions occur when a Northwest swell combines with Southwest offshore winds, with January being the prime month for consistent, clean waves.
