📍 Local Knowledge

Shingles on the West Coast is an exposed beach break that has inconsistent surf with no particular seasonal pattern. The best conditions occur when a Northwest groundswell combines with an offshore wind direction from the South. The beach break provides both left and right-handers, and the quality of the surf is not affected by the tide. Even when there are waves, it is not likely to be crowded, though dangerous rips are a significant hazard. The best time of year for consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of August.
