📍 Local Knowledge

Rapahoe on the West Coast is an exposed beach break known for its fairly consistent surf that works year-round, offering both left and right-hand waves unaffected by tide changes. The beach receives a mix of groundswells and windswells, with the best swell direction from the west–southwest, and performs best in offshore winds from the southeast. The best conditions reported for surf at Rapahoe—also called Chimney Pots—occur when a west swell combines with an offshore east-southeast wind. The spot is rarely crowded even when surf is up, but surfers should be cautious of dangerous rips, with the most consistent clean and rideable waves typically found in winter, especially in July.
