📍 Local Knowledge

Cobden Breakwater on the West Coast is an exposed breakwater setup that delivers fairly consistent surf throughout the year, with groundswells and windswells equally likely and an ideal swell angle from the west–southwest producing right-handers along the structure. The best conditions are reported when a west–southwest swell combines with an offshore east–northeast wind, which is also the preferred wind direction for cleaner wave faces. The spot is usually uncrowded even when surf is up, but surfers should be cautious of dangerous rips, with the most reliable period for clean, rideable waves occurring during winter, particularly in the month of April.
