๐Ÿ“ Local Knowledge

Windies (Ngawi) in The Wairarapa is an exposed reef and point break that has quite reliable surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. The best conditions occur when a South swellโ€”which is just as likely to be a local windswell as a distant groundswellโ€”combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northeast. The spot offers some shelter from northeast winds and features a right-hand reef break, but no beach break. It remains an uncrowded spot even when the surf is up, though surfers should be cautious as submerged rocks are a hazard.
