📍 Local Knowledge
White Rock The Spit in The Wairarapa is an exposed beach and reef break that has quite reliable surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. The best conditions occur when a Southeast swell, consisting of a mix of groundswells and windswells, combines with an offshore wind direction from the North-northwest. The location offers a variety of waves, including beach breaks with lefts and rights as well as both left and right-hand reef breaks, all of which provide good surf at all stages of the tide. It is rarely crowded here, though surfers should watch out for rips and rocks. The best time of year for surfing White Rock with consistent, clean waves is during autumn, with the month of October often seeing the most favorable conditions.
