๐Ÿ“ Local Knowledge

Wainuiomata Reefs in Wellington is a fairly exposed reef break that has quite reliable surf and can work at any time of the year. The best conditions occur when a South swellโ€”which is just as likely to be a local windswell as a distant groundswellโ€”combines with an offshore wind direction from the North-northeast. The spot offers some shelter from northeast winds and features reef breaks (despite the name, there is no beach break here). It can sometimes get crowded when conditions are good, and surfers should be cautious of rocks, which are a known hazard.
