📍 Local Knowledge

Uruti Point in The Wairarapa is an exposed beach break that has quite reliable surf and can work at any time of the year. The best conditions occur when a Southeast swell—which is just as likely to be a local windswell as a distant groundswell—combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northwest. There is no shelter from cross-shore breezes here, and the waves are easily blown out by onshore winds. The beach provides both left and right-handers, and the quality of the surf is not affected by the tide. Even when the surf is up, crowds are unknown.
