Te Ikaamaru Bay in Wellington is a fairly exposed beach break that has fairly consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. The best conditions occur when a Northwest groundswell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Southeast. The beach break provides both left and right-hand waves and offers good surf at all stages of the tide. It can sometimes be crowded when conditions are good. The best time of year for surfing Te Ikaamaru Bay with consistent, clean waves is during the winter, although the month of January is often reported as having favorable conditions.
