๐ Local Knowledge
Slippery in The Wairarapa is an exposed reef break that has fairly consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. The best conditions occur when a Southeast swellโconsisting of windswells and groundswells in equal measureโcombines with an offshore wind direction from the West-northwest. There is no shelter from cross-shore breezes here, and the spot is easily blown out by onshore winds. The reef features a left-hand break that performs best around mid-tide. It very rarely gets crowded, though surfers should be cautious of dangerous rips. The best time of year for surfing Slippery with consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of August.
