Riversdale in The Wairarapa is an exposed beach break that has quite reliable surf and can work at any time of the year. The best conditions occur when a Southeast swell, consisting of a mix of groundswells and windswells, combines with an offshore wind direction from the West-northwest. The beach breaks offer both left and right-hand waves and perform best around high tide. It is rarely crowded here, though surfers must be prepared to negotiate dangerous rips. The best time of year for surfing Riversdale with consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of August.
