📍 Local Knowledge

Humenga Point in The Wairarapa is an exposed point break that has pretty consistent surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. The best conditions occur when a South swell, consisting of a mix of groundswells and windswells, combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northeast. There is no shelter from cross-shore breezes here, and the quality of the surf is poor in light onshore winds. Despite its classification, the spot features reef and beach breaks rather than a traditional point break. It is unlikely to be crowded even when the waves are good, but surfers should be cautious of submerged rocks.
