📍 Local Knowledge

God Squad in The Wairarapa is an exposed reef break that has reasonably consistent surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. The best conditions occur when an East swell, consisting of a mix of groundswells and windswells, combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northwest. There is no shelter from cross-shore breezes here, though the spot can handle light onshore winds. Despite being classified as a reef break, there is no reef break at this location, and the quality of the surf is not affected by the tide. Even when there are waves, it is not likely to be crowded, but surfers should be aware of hazards including rips, rocks, and seals.
