📍 Local Knowledge

Eastbourne in Wellington is a sheltered reef and point break that only works once in a while, with no particular seasonal pattern. The best conditions occur when a South swell, consisting of groundswells and windswells in equal measure, combines with an offshore wind direction from the North-northeast. The spot features a left-hand reef break that performs best around a rising high tide. It can sometimes be crowded when it is working, and surfers should take care to avoid rocks in the lineup. The best time of year for surfing Eastbourne with consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of May.
