📍 Local Knowledge
Dee Dees in The Wairarapa is an exposed reef break that has inconsistent surf, with summer in particular tending to be flat. The best conditions occur when a South swell, consisting of windswells and groundswells in equal measure, combines with an offshore wind direction from the North-northeast (though East-northeast is also highly rated). The reef break provides both left and right-hand waves and performs best around a rising mid-tide. There are relatively few surfers here even on good days, but visitors should watch out for rocks. The best time of year for surfing Dee Dees with consistent, clean waves is during autumn, particularly the month of April.
