📍 Local Knowledge

Castlepoint Beach in The Wairarapa is a sheltered beach break that has unreliable waves with no particular seasonal pattern. The best conditions occur when an East groundswell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Southwest (while West winds also provide some offshore flow). The spot offers some shelter from northeast winds but does not handle onshore conditions very well. The beach provides both left and right-hand waves and offers good surf at all stages of the tide. There are relatively few surfers here even on good days. The best time of year for surfing Castlepoint Beach with consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of May.
