📍 Local Knowledge

Breaker Bay in Wellington is a reasonably exposed reef break that has inconsistent surf, with summer in particular tending to be flat. The best conditions occur when a South swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northwest. The spot offers some shelter from northwest winds and features a right-hand reef break. It is rarely crowded here, though surfers should watch out for rocks. The best time of year for surfing Breaker Bay with consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of June.
