πŸ“ Local Knowledge

South Padre Island in Texas is an exposed beach break with fairly consistent surf, best during the hurricane season. It performs well when a southeast swell combines with offshore winds from the west-southwest. Most of the surf is generated by local windswells rather than distant groundswells, and the break is surfable at all tide stages. It’s unlikely to be crowded, even when the surf is up. Surfers should be cautious of rips and undertow. The best time for consistent, clean waves is during Winter, with December being the most reliable month.
