📍 Local Knowledge

Freeport Channel in Texas is a sheltered beach/pier break with inconsistent surf, working best in spring and summer. It performs optimally when an east swell combines with offshore winds from the north. The surf is mainly from local windswells rather than groundswells, offering both lefts and rights and good waves at all tide stages. This fairly popular spot can sometimes get crowded. Surfers should take care of rips, sharks, and jellyfish. The best time for consistent, clean waves is during Winter, with January being the most reliable month.
