📍 Local Knowledge

Fletchers Beach in Nelson - West Coast is a fairly exposed beach break that has pretty consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. The best conditions occur when a West-northwest swell (a mix of groundswells and windswells) combines with an offshore wind direction from the South-southwest, though the spot offers some shelter from south winds and does not handle onshores well. The break features left-hand beach breaks and a left-hand point break, which perform best around a falling mid tide. It is unlikely to be too crowded even when the surf is up, but surfers should take care to avoid rips and rocks. The best time of year for consistent, clean waves is during the spring, particularly the month of October.
