📍 Local Knowledge

Farewell Spit on the North West Coast is an exposed beach break that has quite reliable surf and can work at any time of the year. The best conditions occur when a Northwest swell (a mix of groundswells and windswells) combines with an offshore wind direction from the South, though East-southeast winds are also noted as offshore for this location. The beach break primarily offers left-handers and provides good surf at all stages of the tide. Even on good days, there are relatively few surfers here, but visitors should beware of hazards such as rips and rocks. The best time of year for surfing with consistent, clean waves is during the winter, particularly the month of August.
