📍 Local Knowledge

The Washout in South Carolina is an exposed beach and pier break that is reliable year-round, making it a consistent option for surf. It performs best with offshore winds from the northwest and a southeast swell, receiving a blend of groundswells and windswells. The break offers both left and right-hand waves, with ideal conditions around mid-tide on the rise. It can get crowded when it's working, so surfers should be cautious of groynes, rips, sharks, jellyfish, and pollution. The best surf occurs when a southeast swell meets northwest winds, with the cleanest waves typically seen in autumn, especially in November.
