📍 Local Knowledge

The Pier (Windjammer) at Pawleys Island is a low-traffic beach-pier break that occasionally morphs into a rewarding surf spot when conditions align, particularly on the south side. The break responds best to southeast swells (often tropical in origin), polished by offshore winds from the west or northwest. It performs strongest around mid to incoming tide, though it becomes unreliable once surf pushes a foot or two overhead. The best time to chase clean, rideable waves here is in late summer through fall, especially September through October. Its remote feel and moderate crowds make it a relaxed choice, but surfers should stay vigilant for rip currents, sand sharks, and shifting beach profiles.
