It receives both local windswells and distant groundswells, with the ideal swell direction from the southwest and offshore winds from the northeast. The break primarily offers left-hand waves and is rarely crowded, even when conditions are good. Hazards include strong rips, undertow, and occasional localism. The best surf occurs when southwest swells align with northeast winds. Summer, particularly July, provides the most consistent clean waves.
