📍 Local Knowledge

Myrtle Beach features a wide, exposed beach-break with shifting sandbars that occasionally deliver both left and right peaks. It performs best in winter—especially December—when northeast and southeast groundswells align with offshore (northwest) winds and low-tide sandbar setups yield cleaner faces. While summer through early fall offers gentle, warm waves—suitable for learning or casual rides—surf is generally inconsistent, with conditions often choppy under onshore breezes. When the swell lines up in winter, expect rideable peaks in relatively uncrowded lineups. Rip currents and pier-adjacent hazards are common, so caution is advised.
