📍 Local Knowledge
Fripp Island is an exclusive beach-break featuring a mixed sand and rock bottom, known for its unique wave behavior and relatively strong consistency. It performs best in fall through winter, particularly when north to northeast swells roll in under mid-to-high tide, creating chest-to-overhead peaks that work well for both shortboard and longboard styles. Waves here stay cleanest with west and northwest offshore/offshore-cross winds. Access is limited to residents or insiders, which keeps crowds low. However, surfers must navigate varying bathymetry, rip currents, and the logistical challenges of getting there.
