Dunes Cove in South Carolina is an exposed river break with consistent surf, with summer offering the best conditions. It receives a mix of groundswells and windswells, with the ideal swell direction from the southeast and offshore winds from the northwest. Waves tend to peel to the right and work best around low tide as it’s rising. The spot is rarely crowded even when waves are present. Hazards include rips, sharks, and pollution. The best surf occurs when southeast swells align with northwest winds. Winter, especially December, is the prime season for clean, rideable waves.
