πŸ“ Local Knowledge

Bull Island, an undeveloped barrier island near Charleston, is one of the most exposed surf zones in South Carolinaβ€”attracting dedicated surfers willing to venture off the beaten path. It performs best in fall, especially September through November, when south and east swells push consistently into the area and light offshore winds help clean up the wave faces. With sandbars spread along its shoreline, the waves break best around low to mid tide, offering peaky lefts and rights that can deliver solid shoulder-to-head-high conditions. Crowds are virtually non-existent due to its remote access, but surfers must be prepared for strong rip currents and shifting sandbars.
