📍 Local Knowledge

Ruggles in Rhode Island is a reasonably exposed reef and point break that offers fairly consistent surf year-round. It works best when southeast swells meet offshore winds from the northwest. The wave setup includes both left and right reef breaks, along with a notable left-hand point break, making it versatile for different styles. The spot performs best around low tide and can draw a crowd when the surf is firing. Strong rips are a known hazard here, so surfers should exercise caution. Winter, particularly February, is the prime time for scoring clean, quality waves at Ruggles.
