📍 Local Knowledge

First Beach in Rhode Island is a fairly exposed beach break that sees consistent surf and can be rideable year-round. It performs best with a southeast swell and offshore winds from the north. The beach offers both lefts and rights, with mid tide—especially as it rises—being the optimal time to catch waves. While it doesn’t typically draw large crowds, surfers should be cautious of strong rips. Winter, especially March, is considered the best time to find clean, rideable waves at this spot.
