📍 Local Knowledge

Doura in Rabat to Casablanca is a quite exposed river break that offers its most consistent surfing opportunities during the autumn and winter months, while the summer is typically flat. It performs best when a strong northwest swell combines with offshore winds from the northeast. Most of the waves arrive in the form of distant Atlantic groundswells, producing a long, peeling right-hand peak across the shifting sandbars at the river mouth that can become quite punchy and hollow when a solid swell is running. The surf is notably versatile and remains rideable at all stages of the tide, though it often provides the cleanest faces on a rising mid-tide. While it is a reliable spot along this stretch of coast, it can sometimes become crowded when the conditions are optimal. Surfers should exercise caution and stay alert for hazards such as strong lateral currents, shifting sandbars, and water pollution. The best conditions reported for surf at Doura occur when a Northwest swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the Northeast.
