📍 Local Knowledge

Margara in Puerto Rico is a reasonably exposed reef break with generally unreliable surf, but it can offer rideable waves during autumn and winter when conditions align. The spot works best with north-northwest swells and offshore winds from the south, though it remains exposed to cross-shore breezes. It handles both groundswells and windswells well and is surfable at all stages of the tide. Margara is usually very quiet, making it an appealing option for uncrowded sessions, but surfers should watch out for rocks and sea urchins. The best chance for consistent, clean waves is in autumn, particularly in October.
