Vila Franca on Ilha de São Miguel in the Azores is an exposed reef and beach break that can offer rideable surf when swell energy is present, picking up a range of swell directions with a tendency to work best on southern swells that wrap northward into the break. The bottom is primarily sandy with some uneven reef influence, producing both lefts and rights when conditions line up. It works across most tide stages and is typically uncrowded compared with many north‑coast spots. Cleaner conditions are more likely with offshore winds from the north or northeast. The best month to surf Vila Franca is August.
