Viana do Castelo is an exposed river break in North Portugal that offers fairly consistent surf and can work year-round, with both left and right-hand waves. The most favorable conditions are a West swell (from a mix of groundswells and windswells) combined with offshore winds from the Northeast. The break provides good surf at all stages of the tide.
