📍 Local Knowledge
Terreiro on Ilha de São Miguel in the Azores is an exposed right-hand reef break that offers reasonably consistent waves along the south coast, often working when nearby north-facing spots are flat. It tends to pick up swell from southern and western swell angles and is generally best with offshore winds from the north to northwest, which help clean up the wave faces. The break works across most tide levels, producing a fun right that can suit intermediate surfers when swell energy is present, and it usually stays less crowded compared with iconic north-shore breaks. The bottom is primarily rocky reef and boulders, so surfers should watch for reef hazards in the lineup. The best month to surf Terreiro is January.
