📍 Local Knowledge

São Martinho do Porto is a very sheltered bay in Central Portugal that is not considered a surf spot due to the lack of waves within the shell-shaped bay. The spot is unreliable for surfing year-round. The most favorable conditions for any small wave activity would be during a large Northwest swell combined with offshore winds from the North. The bottom is predominantly sand. The spot is uncrowded by surfers, but popular with families in summer. Surfers should be aware of strong currents near the narrow ocean entrance and should avoid entering the water during turbulent conditions. The best time for seeking any surfable conditions is typically during Winter, although the spot is generally flat.
