Santa Maria – Praia Formosa is an exposed beach and reef break in the Azores that delivers very consistent surf year-round, picking up a mix of groundswells and windswells. It works best with south-southeast swells and offshore winds from the north-northeast, producing lefts and rights on the beach break and mainly right-hand waves over the reef. Conditions can get crowded at times, and surfers should watch for rocks and rip currents. The best month to surf Santa Maria – Praia Formosa is August.
