Ribeira Grande on Ilha de São Miguel in the Azores is a fairly exposed beach break that offers consistent surf year-round. It works best with north to north-northwest swells and offshore winds from the southeast, picking up a mix of local windswells and longer-period groundswells. The beach produces both lefts and rights and is rarely crowded, even when conditions are good. The best month to surf Ribeira Grande is February, when winter swells and offshore winds most reliably combine for clean, rideable waves.
