Praia de Salema is a quite exposed sandbar break in The Algarve that does not work very often, with Winter being the optimum time of year for surfing, featuring both left and right-hand waves. The most favorable conditions are a South groundswell combined with offshore winds from the North-Northwest. The location means that it never gets crowded. Surfers should be aware of urchins and rocks. The best time for consistent, clean waves is typically in November.
