Praia das Amoeiras in Portugal is an exposed beach break that acts as a consistent swell magnet, reliably picking up Atlantic energy year-round. The spot offers fun left and right peaks over a predominantly sandy bottom mixed with scattered rock formations. It works best when West or Northwest swells pair with light or offshore winds from the East, creating cleaner faces. It is often surfable across most tides, though mid-tide is generally favored, and the rocky sections demand awareness, particularly at lower stages. Crowds here tend to be low to moderate, offering a quieter experience than nearby Santa Cruz, largely due to its slightly challenging access down the cliff path. Hazards include strong rips and currents, as well as submerged and exposed rocks, especially on the inside sections. While Praia das Amoeiras can break year-round, the most reliable and powerful clean, rideable waves typically arrive during the autumn and winter seasons.
